$7 Million demanded by HBO hackers to not leak further episodes of Game of Thrones!!!!
The recent events in hacking over the HBO network have turn out for the worse considering the infamous script leaks and the recent fumble by the hands of Star India who is the official Television Broadcast partner of Game of Thrones in India.It was reported that Star India was responsible for uploading the episode 4 of season 7 on their website by mistake and they rectified it by taking it down but that wasn't enough as the episode was downloaded and shared vastly.
It's actually the extent of hacking that might have terrified the officials at HBO , about 1.5TB of data has been stolen as claimed by the hackers which included scripts of unreleased episodes of Game of Thrones along with 3 fully featured yet to be aired episodes of Ballers and Room 101.
Primarily there wasn't any demands from the hackers but now they have been (covertly) demanding about ransom from the HBO network to avoid any further leaks.The official statement as given by the hackers through a scroll video along with the GoT theme song plating in the background reads out
“HBO spends 12 million for Market Research and 5 million for GOT7 advertisements. So consider us another budget for your advertisements!”.
Well there was't actually any direct demand for the ransom but the covert demand was comprehended as a $7 million in bitcoins.They said that it took them 6 months to hack and enter the HBO servers and so they should be given their 6 month salary
Don't know what bitcoins are and how much 1 bitcoin is worth read here.
The HBO officials accepting the attack have choosen to not comment on the demands of the hackers.In an interview with the wire, HBO spokesperson Jeff Cuson said
"We continue to work around the clock with outside cybersecurity firms and law enforcement to resolve the incident,” declining any comments on further demands of the hackers.
