Is engineering or being an engineer in India in 2018 from a tier 3 college worth it?

Well if you are here for the first time and have not read the part1 to this post,I highly suggest you to go and read that and then try to read this as it will give you some exposition as well as contextual clarity over this post..

Mumbai University

Third Time's a charm they said....well?

The academically most irrelevant year also the most fun year,so kind of a bitter sweet year is the T.E of engineering.I sincerely feel this is the year where you can properly pursue extra curricular activities or maybe any hobby "left" that you think you want to try.

Talking about myself, Blogging was what I picked up in T.E. and i would consider this a fairly pursued hobby even though I have failed to be punctual and make any considerable money from it, but on the flipside it helped me with my command over the english language and my keyboard presence(very important if you are going to work in a software company and probably write codes the entire day).

I took up a core language and started doing entry to intermediate level coding in that which helped me a lot later on during the placement season.

Besides that I expand my zone to know people and became friends with a lot of other interesting people from my class and that was one of the few good decisions I made in engineering.

Before I could let all these good memories settle into my mind, I was struck with the realization of the upcoming storm in our lives. It was still far but the vibrations and the faint sound it made,I heard it. I tried to hear it and it said...

PLACEMENT!!
.....
PROJECT!!!!

POINTERS!!!!!

The Final showdown in an extremely underrated undergrads life from a very unworthy college(Fourth year)

Now let me dissect the most controversial part of this title for you.If you have read the part1, to this series of posts I said that I won't rant the profession which i won't but i'll tell you exactly what's wrong with the way the skill is gained to be called an engineer.

POINTERS

This section is actually very subjective to the institute that you might be studying engineering from.Talking about mine,I can sum it up by saying that "Some people get most of the internals and most of them get some".

This policy is kind of similar in most of colleges in MU.Now in a righteous system where the faculties know that all the assessments, files, assignments are completely bullcrap, what should be done is that either each student irrespective of the favoritism should be evaluated similarly or other parameters which would genuinely check a student's knowledge with respect to the topic in concern("NOT BY TAKING VIVA")  which would make this system fair.

I mean what happens is that this system and its method of evaluation takes away a student's right to the chance of being employed just because he doesn't come to you or maybe isn't seen as much as his classmates.

PROJECT

The final year project has become a joke,Not the build up to the project. The build up is filled with tension, anxiety, presentations, rejections, etc. It's like a crossover between the tension from Don't Breathe ,the tragedy from The Shawshank Redemption all these leading upto a silly ending from Welcome.

That's exactly how I will describe my Final Year Project experience. This is because of the lack of interest from both the students and the project guides. I seriously believe that the first project topic which is mostly rejected by professors are the one's which actually attract a students's attention and could possibly push the individual towards creating a cool project "ALL BY HIMSELF".

PLACEMENT

I never imagined this to go south in such horrocious way.ALL that we do throughout the engineering accounts to getting placed , getting paid and then going ahead to do great things in future. All these has now been changed to a far fetched dream which it shouldn't be.

Who do you think is responsible for this??

I read an interview few days back of CEO of Tech Mahindra saying that 94% of engineering graduates in India are unemployable. Now I will tell you a very dark ugly honest truth, "It's us who are responsible".

Not because we are not trying enough or not doing enough from our side.It is because we were so blindsided by the glitter and glory of engineering or being an engineer that we forgot or didn't pay attention to taking admission into a real "engineering college".What we did or what we are going through is not the results we deserve after putting in equal efforts as other students and yet not getting placed or being underpaid.

You know what these so called engineering colleges/money making industries need to do to make it right is that they deserve to either pay us back for making those false promises at the beginning or they need to pay each of their students for each day they spent not having a job because all this that we face or will face ,IT'S ON YOU(The college).

Colleges like these that don't deserve to be an engineering college in the first place needs to go down because they are the reasons for creating mass employment in our nation.

PS: I am not monetizing this post because sometimes you want people to just read the honest truth. I urge you to share this on your timelines and make the unanimous voice of engineers reach the correct people who can either end this or atleast bring some change.

If you are an engineering aspirant about to take engineering in MU. Do it only if you get into the TOP 10 or 15 college in Mumbai, All other college will only make false promises to you and you would only add to the unemployment and to list of people who think "Engineering is a mistake",It's not.

The open ending of the part1 stays open ended because this post didn't lead to a happy ending and i believe endings should be happy.
