11 Lakh PAN card's deactivated by the Indian government . Read to know how you can check the validity of your PAN card
You may not be knowing that 11 lakh PAN cards have been deleted or deactivated recently.As per rules it is illegal to keep multiple PAN cards for a single identity. The government recently performed a de-duplication scan over the exisisting database entries.
As stated by an official in the government "The uniqueness of PAN is achieved by conducting a de-duplication check on all already existing allotted PAN against the data furnished by new applicant. Under the existing system of PAN, only demographic data is captured.
How to confirm whether your PAN card is still active ???
Follow these procedures
1. Click this link here incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.. This is the official site for income tax department's e-filling.
2. Click on Know your PAN from the homepage (check the left side panel).Fill out the details carefully the details will be Name,Gender etc.
After carefully filling out the detail click on submit.
3.On the next page you will be prompted to give the OTP you will receive on your registered mobile number.
Click on validate.
In some cases you may receive a pop up stating "There are multiple records for this query. Please provide additional information"
Don't be afraid right now this simply means that the information you are providing may not be enough to uniquely identify you from the overall entries in the database.
4.In the next page if your PAN card is not duplicated it will be given "ACTIVE" under the REMARK coloum
PS: The last date for linking your Aadhar to PAN is 31st August 2017. We must help the government towards tackling such frauds as this is our duty being a rightful citizen of India
